Is Money the Root of All Evil?

Have you ever heard someone say the Bible teaches that money is the root of all evil? That is NOT what the Bible teaches.

The Bible does say that the “love of money is the root of all kinds of evil” (I Timothy 6:10). But that's not the same thing as saying that money itself is evil.

In fact, the Bible actually teaches us that we should be good stewards of our money. We should use it to help others and to build up the kingdom of God. (I Timothy 6:17-19)

So what's the difference between money and the love of money?

Money is just a tool. It can be used for good or for evil. But the love of money is a heart issue. It's when we put our trust in money and make it our top priority that we get in trouble.

When we love money, we're always chasing after more. We're never satisfied. And we're always at risk of being tempted to do things we shouldn’t in order to get more money.

But when we use money wisely, it can be a blessing to us and to others. We can use it to help those in need. We can invest it in businesses that create jobs and grow the economy. And we can use it to support ministries that are making a difference in the world.

Let's use it wisely and let's not let it become our master.

The love of money is ugly, but money shared in love is beautiful.

Let's multiply what God has entrusted to us so that we can bless others more over our lifetimes!
